Members helping Members - the UFCW 951 Steward program

Nothing expresses the idea of members helping members better than the role of Union Stewards.
UFCW 951 is in the process of "reengineering" the Steward system to better serve the realities and needs of today's workers. The new system awards incentives based on a Steward's activity. Stewards earn credits toward multiple levels of incentives through a variety of activities such as attending training sessions, educating new members, holding regular meetings, assisting members with benefits enrollment, helping with an organizing campaign, and various other activities that benefit the membership.

UFCW 951 is committed to continually reviewing the Steward program and making modifications when we see an    opportunity to better serve our members.

UFCW Region 4 Meijer Steward Conference
Stewards from Michigan, Ohio, and Kentucky gathered together at Bowling Green University on May 11, 2009, for the first - ever UFCW Region 4 Meijer Steward Conference. This conference was voluntary and does not take the place of the annual steward conference. More than 250 stewards from Michigan attended. The conference began with a presentation on the current economic situation and the impact it is having on the Retail and Food Services industry. Stewards enjoyed lunch and informative presentations regarding TMAG, Cashier Productivity, a GAB update and the Universal Benefits Agreement. The conference concluded with Larry Plumb, UFCW Region 4 Director, and UFCW 951 President Marv Russow asking the stewards about their desire to do more 'joint' events, and thanking them for the amazing turnout.
