Robert Potter - President

Robert Potter began working in the retail food industry in 1963 when he was hired as a part-time food clerk at Meijer. He joined 951’s staff in 1973 as a union representative and became executive assistant to the president in 1977. In 1980, 951 members elected him to serve as their president; he has won re-election eight times.

Under Potter's leadership, 951 implemented a focused expansion program, increasing membership levels from 8,000 to 33,000 over the last twenty-five years. As President, Potter is responsible for the overall objectives and direction of the activities of UFCW 951.

Potter is also serving his third term as an International Vice President for the UFCW International Union and recently chaired the Committee for the Future to chart a course for the UFCW in the 21^st century.
